Description

Step onto a wildly imagined battlefield where Victorian bravado meets exotic fantasy. The narrator Orlando recounts the conquest of the glittering island Seringapatam, described in lush, over‑the‑top detail. Told with the tongue‑in‑cheek flair of a Punch parody, the story mixes grandiose military jargon with absurd, cartoonish images of palaces, acacias, and fierce local warriors. It promises a rollicking blend of satire, adventure, and hyper‑heroic exploits that lampoon imperial pomposity.

Orlando, fresh from a chaotic charge with his flamboyant Thundershakers, is suddenly separated, his sword broken and pistol empty as two towering artillerymen close in. In a breathless series of comic exaggerations—flashbacks to an English countryside home, a desperate prayer, then a sudden surge of will—he narrowly escapes death. The narration delivers vivid battlefield snapshots, witty asides, and a relentless, almost musical war‑cry that underscores the satire. The opening sets the stage for more absurd escapades, inviting listeners to enjoy a high‑spirited parody of empire.
