On a sun‑filled spring morning in Somersetshire, the countryside bursts with green leaves, buzzing bees and the distant call of a cuckoo. Yet a short distance away the ancient Nettleby Tower looms, its stone walls cloaked in lichens and the scars of centuries‑old sieges. Once a Norman stronghold and later a baronial prison, the tower now lies half‑ruined, its courtyard overrun with grass and its windows shattered by time. The silent, gloomy silhouette stands in stark contrast to the lively fields that surround it.
The tower’s present custodian, Dr. Bardon, inherited the crumbling estate under a cloud of bitter family litigation that stripped his forebears of their birthright. He lives in modest circumstances, watching the world from the tower’s desolate heights while rumors of hauntings swirl among the locals. A wizened cottage‑dweller guides curious visitors through the dark corridors, sharing tales of disinheritance, lingering spirits, and the uneasy feeling that something unseen still moves within the stone. As the story unfolds, listeners are invited to question whether the true menace lies in the tower’s history or in the unseen forces that linger.
