Description

Set against the rugged landscape of early‑18th‑century Northumberland, the tale opens in the splendid yet newly built Dilston Castle, home of the youthful Earl of Derwentwater. Amidst chestnut‑lined avenues and the ancient stone tower that once guarded the border, the earl’s devotion to the deposed Stuart king draws him into a dangerous web of loyalty, faith, and rebellion. The narrative paints vivid pictures of Highland bravado and the looming threat of a Crown determined to crush any hint of insurrection.

As the Jacobite plot thickens, the charismatic Brigadier Mackintosh arrives, his daring leadership promising a fierce defense of Preston, while the scheming General Forster looms as a shadow of betrayal. The earl, torn between his noble lineage and the perilous cause, faces moral dilemmas that test his honor and resolve. The opening delivers a richly atmospheric portrait of a pivotal moment when personal conviction clashes with the unforgiving tide of history.
