Pleasing Poetry and Pictures: For the Mind and the Eye

This charming children’s collection brings together simple verses and illustrations designed to delight both the imagination and the eye. Its poems invite young listeners into a world of busy bees, singing larks, lively squirrels, flowers, stars, and the wide wonders of creation.

Alongside these cheerful scenes are gentle lessons about industry, kindness, obedience, compassion, prayer, and making good use of each day. Children learn why an idle hand should find wholesome work, why a mother deserves patience and gratitude, and why animals should be treated with care rather than made targets of amusement.

With its lilting rhymes, familiar homely settings, and reassuring moral guidance, the book is well suited to early listeners and beginning readers. From the morning’s work to an evening prayer and a peaceful good night, these short pieces offer a warm, old-fashioned introduction to reading, reflection, and the natural world.
