Description

Ike Harper, a weathered narrator, shares a ramshackle cabin on Plenty Stone Creek with the towering, forever‑scheming Magpie Simpkins. Magpie’s lanky frame and love of risky bets make him the kind of man who’ll try to out‑smart a magazine story about surviving naked in the wild. Joining them is Tellurium Woods, a blunt, flannel‑wrapped neighbor who’s quick to raise the stakes and quicker to demand proof. When Magpie wagers a hundred dollars that he can endure thirty days in the Medicine Hills without clothes or weapons, Ike becomes the reluctant guarantor of a deal that could cost them all.

As Magpie disappears into the tangled forest, a ragged caravan emerges on the trail, hinting that the woods hold more than just trees and wildlife. The story blends dry humor, rugged frontier dialogue, and the uneasy anticipation of a gamble that could change each man’s fate, inviting listeners to linger over every rustle and wager.
