Description

A crew of hardy voyageurs sets out from the bustling ports of the Atlantic, driven by the promise of new horizons and fresh trade routes. Their ship, under the steady hand of Captain Corbet, sails into uncharted seas, where friendly islands give way to strange schooners and bewildering customs. When a sudden storm drives them onto a desolate isle, they must quickly learn to survive among unfamiliar natives and a mysterious, ship‑wrecked world.

Stranded but resourceful, the men forge uneasy alliances with the island’s inhabitants, trading stories and skills while battling hunger, the relentless tide, and their own fears. As supplies dwindle, they discover a hidden vessel and a stash of provisions that spark hope and a daring plan to signal rescue. The narrative captures the tension between hope and desperation, offering vivid snapshots of camaraderie, ingenuity, and the raw beauty of a remote, untamed coast.

James De Mille

1833–1880

A 19th-century Canadian novelist and professor, he mixed adventure, satire, travel writing, and humor in books that once made him one of the best-known popular writers in North America. His work still stands out for its lively wit and for the strange, imaginative power of A Strange Manuscript Found in a Copper Cylinder.
