A weather‑worn drifter and his loud‑mouthed partner “Dirty Shirt” Jones quit the dusty town of Piperock after a botched temperance push, nursing bruised egos and a restless conscience. When they discover a sealed letter offering a modest fee for a fiery speech that could swing the county’s “local option” referendum, the promise of cash and a chance at redemption lure them back toward the contested crossroads of Eagle and Piperock.
Along the crooked road they wander into a raucous gambling hall where a hulking bully claims the wheel is rigged, sparking a chaotic showdown that tests their wits and uneasy alliance. The tale pauses just as the pair prepare to deliver the fateful speech, leaving the vote’s outcome and their future hanging in the balance while delivering sharp humor, frontier grit, and a satirical look at small‑town politics.
