CHAPTER VIII - THE ACTS OF PIERREBON
Bertrand, the younger son of a noble Vidame, has been groomed for a clerical life while his half‑brother Simon climbs the courtly ladder, leaving a bitter rivalry in his wake. When a sudden illness claims their mother and a distant brother dies in Italy, the aging patriarch summons the brothers home, only for Simon to bar Bertrand’s entry and claim the family lands as his own. Betrayed and desperate, Bertrand finds himself cast out into the forest, forced to survive on his own while the chateau he once knew turns hostile.
Amid the looming shadows of medieval France, the story follows Bertrand’s struggle to reclaim his honor and his father’s blessing. He navigates treacherous court intrigue, the stark beauty of the countryside, and the lingering weight of family curses. As he wrestles with loyalty, love, and the harsh realities of a world where power shifts with a single word, his quest to restore justice begins in the quiet desperation of a wounded heart.
