On a bright spring morning Olav hauls his cart of dung across a rocky field, the meltwater already humming from the nearby stream. The jagged cliffs of Härkätunturi glitter in the sunrise while a small boat bearing his son Eirik glides across the blue fjord, ferrying lambs to a distant shore. As Olav works, his lively daughter Cecilia darts among the stones, teasing her father with imagined flowers and laughter that echo through the valley.
The quiet routine is soon disturbed when two lanky Englishmen, the sons of a foreign merchant, appear at the homestead seeking Olav’s skill as a ship’s master. Their talk of a summer voyage and a disputed trade agreement with the local dealer stirs whispers of old debts and the lingering grief of Olav’s late wife. As the men settle in, the family must decide whether to trust the newcomers and what the promised journey might mean for their fragile livelihood.
