Description

In a gray summer twilight of 1680, the bustling hall of Ballum’s manor becomes a stage for restless youth. Twenty‑two‑year‑old Frans Duco, freshly freed from Ameland, gathers with his kin—Rix t of Donia, his sister Welmoed, the earnest Jelmer Walta, the thoughtful Thora Unema, and a few townsfolk—each wrestling with longing, duty and the sea’s restless promise. Their voices rise in verse, weaving personal hopes with the rhythm of wind and wave that sweeps over the low, gold‑tinged dunes surrounding the town.

As the characters exchange poetry and whispered vows, the looming storm becomes a mirror for hidden anxieties. Frans feels the pull of his heritage and the weight of an unseen destiny, while Welmoed’s fragile resolve meets Jelmer’s quiet strength. The opening scenes set a vivid portrait of a community on the brink of change, inviting listeners to taste the salty air, hear the creaking floorboards, and feel the first tremors of a drama that will echo through both heart and horizon.
