In the sprawling, heavily regulated world of the Jug—a notorious correctional institution where every breath is monitored—Captain Liam O’Leary has earned a reputation for detecting trouble before it erupts. His uncanny “nose for trouble” has kept him alive long enough to rise to the rank of guard captain, and he follows the Civil Service Guide to the letter. When a disturbance bubbles up in a distant cell block, O’Leary is the first to sense it.
The disturbance centers on Sue‑Ann Bradley, a young detainee with a sharp tongue and a stubborn refusal to obey a simple rule: mop out her cell. Charged with a serious offense—conspiracy to violate the Categoried Class laws—she challenges the guards with defiant protests that quickly draw the attention of the entire block. O’Leary must decide whether discipline will straighten her out or push her further toward hysteria.
Against this backdrop, the story hints at a society that has fragmented into hyper‑specialized roles, each barely understanding the other beyond basic needs. The clash between O’Leary’s disciplined order and Bradley’s rebellious spirit sets the stage for a tense, character‑driven drama that explores how individuals navigate a world built on strict hierarchy and dwindling communication.
