Description

In the bustling world of late‑Victorian Birmingham, a colossal publishing empire dominates the streets, its sprawling factories and endless rows of numbered employees a testament to profit‑driven ambition. At the heart of this machine is a young woman named Augusta, whose family’s fortunes hinge on the whims of the inscrutable Mr. Meeson and the looming question of his will. When a sudden legal dispute threatens to strip her brother Eustace of his inheritance, Augusta is forced to choose between the comfortable safety of the office and a daring plunge into the unknown.

Her decision sends her aboard the RMS Kangaroo, into the harsh wilderness of the Kerguelen Islands, and into a tangled web of deception, betrayal and unexpected alliances. As she confronts the ruthless forces that want the Meeson fortune for themselves, Augusta discovers a resilience she never suspected, and the story unfolds into a suspenseful chase that balances courtroom intrigue with perilous adventure—leaving listeners eager to see how far she’ll go before the final verdict is delivered.
