Description

In the heart of a bustling Parisian square, an aging veteran named père Trébuc patrols the pathways with a measured gait, his kepi perched and medals glinting beneath his coat. A former marine sergeant, he carries a reputation for unflinching discipline, yet his polite greetings mask a life marked by distant campaigns in Madagascar, China, and elsewhere. The daily rhythm of his rounds—crossing rail fences, nodding to the vicaire, watching the spring‑time leaves unfurl—creates a quiet tableau of order amid the city’s chatter.

Around him, a cast of familiar faces—curious tenants, an eager vicaire, the ever‑watchful commissaire—offers fleeting glimpses into the square’s social fabric. Their conversations swirl with courteous banter, but beneath the surface linger rumors of past glories and hidden regrets, hinted at whenever Trébuc adjusts the medals on his chest. The square itself feels like a stage, each passerby a potential witness to the old guard’s lingering pride.

A chance encounter with Monsieur Forderaire, a sharp‑eyed tenant, breaks the routine. Their teasing exchange about age and rejuvenation hints at deeper stories tied to Trébuc’s military past, and an unexpected question that seems to tug at a concealed secret. As the spring air thickens, listeners are invited to follow the modest rhythms of the square and discover what lies just beyond the polite façade.
