Maksim Gorky

1868–1936

Raised in poverty and shaped by years of wandering work, he became one of Russia’s most famous writers, known for stories of outcasts, workers, and people fighting to keep their dignity. His writing helped define an era and remains a powerful bridge between 19th-century realism and Soviet literature.
