Description

In a modest flat on Madrid’s bustling Calle Ancha de San Bernardo, a sharp‑eyed mother watches the world outside her window as if it were a stage. Señora de Pardiñas spends her afternoons knitting, yet her mind is anything‑but idle; she catalogues every professor’s gait, every student’s gossip, and the subtle cues that might affect her son’s exams. Her observations are laced with humor and a tender protectiveness, turning the ordinary rhythm of university life into a vivid tableau.

Rogelio, her only son, strides through the city in a crimson cloak and a jaunty hat, delivering witty salutations to his mother that spark spontaneous laughter. Between lectures he trades banter with street vendors, classmates, and the servants who linger in their modest dining room, his appetite for both food and adventure ever evident. As the semester unfolds, his mother’s keen eye and his own restless spirit set the stage for a series of small crises and heartfelt moments that capture the bittersweet pulse of youthful ambition and maternal love.
