Description

A fog‑laden North Atlantic liner drifts through a restless night, its doors left ajar for the mist to slip inside. In the cramped mess, sailors and travelers swap gossip about a flamboyant young American, the son of a railway magnate who has never known a life without money or privilege. Their conversations reveal a boy who has been shuttled from hotel to hotel, from San Diego to New York, always under the watchful eye of a distant, business‑obsessed father.

When the teenager finally steps onto the ship, he cuts a striking figure—bright red cap, flashy knickers, and a cigarette dangling from his lips. He charms and provokes the crew with bold jokes, casual wagers, and a swagger that masks a restless curiosity about the world beyond his gilded upbringing. Listeners are invited to follow his first uneasy foray onto the high seas, where his restless energy meets the raw, unforgiving rhythm of ocean life.
