Description

In this lively, hero‑comic tale we follow Maurin, the self‑styled “king of the Maures,” as he roams the sun‑kissed hills of Provence with a wink and a ready rhyme. His humor is rooted in the provincial tradition of galéades, where even the most ordinary incident—chasing a hat, outwitting a gendarme, or bargaining over a piece of poultry—becomes a stage for clever wordplay and good‑natured mischief. The narrative bursts with vivid sketches of talkative officials, eccentric hunters, and a colorful cast of villagers who share Maurin’s love of laughter at their own expense.

Through a series of episodic adventures, Maurin’s audacious schemes bring him into harmless conflict with the local police, a flamboyant prefect, and an ever‑curious police clerk named Parlo‑Soulet. Their banter reveals the quirks of Provençal life, from the absurdity of “hunting caps” to the peculiar customs surrounding boules and rain. As the first act unfolds, listeners are treated to a sparkling portrait of a man who, despite his grand titles—prince of poachers, duke of mayors—remains a charmingly flawed hero whose antics celebrate the simple, stubborn joy of a region that knows how to laugh at itself.
