Description

In the quiet evenings of Hamchester College, the housemaster and his trio of prefects linger over walnuts and a light port, their conversation drifting between football prospects and holiday tales. Their routine is interrupted by the sudden arrival of a petite, nineteen‑year‑old Irish visitor, whose lilting brogue and confident smile instantly command attention. Dressed in a grey travelling coat and veil, she steps into the lamplit dining room, demanding a seat and a glass of claret with a mix of charm and urgency.

Her presence unsettles the orderly world of the college’s senior students, especially the nervous housemaster, who scrambles to accommodate her unexpected stay. Yet the girl, Lallie, moves with effortless ease, drawing the prefects into her animated conversation while subtly probing the household’s hospitality. As the night unfolds, listeners are invited to watch the delicate dance of manners, curiosity, and a budding connection that may reshape the lives of both the disciplined scholars and the spirited newcomer.
