Description

When the Dorfield Regiment rolls back into town, eager young Mary Louise sees a chance to offer more than a warm welcome. Guided by her grandfather’s seasoned military stories, she imagines the returning soldiers—some hardened by France, others fresh faces looking for a foothold—as part of the community she loves. With an umbrella in hand and a small automobile at the ready, she sets out to meet the troops, hoping to lend a friendly hand to any who might be stranded or in need of a home.

Her curiosity quickly lands her in the middle of a puzzling situation: a mysterious disappearance among the newcomers and a telegram that hints at deeper trouble. As Mary Louise befriends the earnest Danny Dexter and encounters a swirl of characters from the Dorfield Girls to the enigmatic Josie O’Gorman, she begins to suspect that the regiment’s return carries secrets far beyond simple reunions. Listeners will find herself drawn into a story of youthful compassion, wartime adjustment, and the first hints of an adventure that promises both heart and intrigue.
