In the tangled jungles of the Solomon Islands, a battered sailor named Gleason washes ashore with a spear wound and a broken rib, his whaleboat shattered and his crew barely clinging to life. He is taken in by Henderson, a plantation owner whose Bible‑quoting optimism masks a keen eye on the island’s trade and a growing ambition for wealth. There, Gleason meets Maehoe, a determined native youth yearning to join the constabulary and to prove himself amid the volatile blend of colonial power and local customs.
Against the backdrop of feverish heat and whispered tabus, the three men are pulled into a fragile triangle of mistrust, fear, and uneasy cooperation. Henderson’s plantation sits on a forbidden zone, a protective curse laid by a local devil‑devil doctor, while Maehoe struggles between loyalty to his people and his personal aspirations. As Gleason recovers, the tension between survival, greed and the looming threat of a tribal raid promises a tense drama that tests each character’s resolve.
