In the rugged highlands of Chiapas, an English‑educated outsider named Jones has been sent to oversee a remote mine. The daily grind is brutal, the jungle oppressive, and the small community of mestizo farmers seems as distant as the ancient stones that litter the landscape. Seeking companionship, Jones finds the locals aloof, their lives bound by hardship and a stubborn routine. Turning to the remnants of forgotten Aztec cities, he begins cataloguing crumbling temples, letting the mysteries of the past fill the void left by his isolation.
A whispered rumor leads him to Don Ignatio, a charismatic indigenous landowner reputed to know the deepest legends of the region. Ignatio invites Jones to his grand estate, a white‑stone marvel surrounded by towering ceiba trees, promising a glimpse into the hidden history that shapes the valley. As Jones steps onto the sprawling courtyard, the promise of adventure and discovery hangs heavy in the humid air, setting the stage for a journey that will test his resolve and awaken forgotten spirits.
