A daring thief named Hugh Starke pulls off the heist of a lifetime, stealing a million‑credit payroll ship from the ruthless Terro‑Venus Mines. The chase drives him into the uncharted Mountains of White Cloud, where a magnetic storm tears his ship apart and leaves him crashing on an alien world. He awakens in an unfamiliar body, his senses assaulted by a landscape of red mist, burning seas and towering stone arches that seem both beautiful and hostile.
As he gathers his bearings, Starke discovers that his new form is despised by the planet’s inhabitants and that his very soul is claimed by Rann, a fearsome devil‑goddess who has her own designs. The strange palace he finds, draped in silks and lit by flickering amber light, hints at ancient powers and dangerous alliances. With his wits and the stolen fortune still in his grasp, he must navigate this foreign realm before his captors—or the goddess herself—close in.
