Description

John Raffles, known as the Great Unknown, lounges in his London hideaway, a modest villa that feels more like a fox’s den. With his companion Charly Brand, a dream‑dazed smoker, he debates a sudden trip to Ostend, only to discover their bank balance has dwindled to fourteen pounds and six shillings. The shortfall sparks a hasty plan: Raffles will pose as Graf von Leutomischel, chamberlain to the King of Serbia, and approach the eccentric biscuit magnate Mr. Piek with a lavish, fabricated order.

Raffles and Charly catch a train into the heart of the city, where Raffles stocks up on counterfeit orders of rank and regalia from a curious shop on the Strand. He then heads to the Lisbon Hotel, arranging a six‑o’clock rendezvous with the unsuspecting Mr. Piek, while Charly slips away to procure a proper dinner suit. As the clock ticks, the two men weave a web of deception that promises high‑society intrigue, secret honors, and the kind of clever twists that keep listeners guessing which side of the law they will finally land on.
