Description

When little Frankie Gray is almost seven, a new lady moves into town hoping to open a small school. Miss Fanny Grant’s sunny smile and kind, Christian conversation win over Frankie’s mother, and with her husband’s blessing the siblings Frankie and Nelly become her first pupils. The family, relieved to have a gentle teacher, looks forward to a day when learning feels like adventure rather than a chore.

Miss Grant quickly turns a modest room into a bright little classroom, hanging colorful maps, pictures of animals, and a large alphabet card on the walls. She adds a blackboard, a globe, a numeral frame and even a wooden orrery, explaining that these “apparatus” will help the children see ideas with their own eyes. Curious Frankie rushes to share his own treasure‑filled birthday box, hoping his gifts will find a place among the new learning tools, and the children leave the gate eager to step into a world of wonder.
