Description

Perched on a sheer cliff overlooking the restless sea, the ancient stone fortress of Athlin dominates the mist‑shrouded Scottish highlands. Its gothic towers and winding corridors echo with centuries of legend, while the surrounding mountains hold a quiet, untamed beauty that feels both majestic and foreboding.

Inside the castle, Maltida, the widowed countess, struggles to keep her family together after her husband’s brutal death at the hands of the neighboring chieftain Malcolm. Her son Osbert, a bright‑eyed nineteen‑year‑old, balances a restless curiosity with a keen sense of duty, while his sister Marie, on the cusp of womanhood, embodies the grace and resolve of their noble lineage. Their growing friendship with the enigmatic young Alleyn hints at alliances that could shift the fragile balance of power.

Against a backdrop of feuding clans and ancient grudges, the story explores how grief, honor, and youthful idealism clash in a world where every stone seems to remember a past betrayal. The first act sets the stage for a tale of resilience and the restless yearning for justice.
