Description

A single, earnest letter opens the tale, addressed to a doctor who once pulled the narrator back from a dark threshold that promised to seal him forever in oblivion. The writer speaks of ancient myths about two doors: one that releases winged dreams, the other that traps souls beyond return. Gratitude drips from each line, turning a personal salvation into a promise to share the fragile gifts of dreaming. This opening sets a tone of wonder tinged with lingering dread.

The narrative then plunges into a relentless storm at sea, where a battered vessel fights against a blackened horizon and rain‑soaked lanterns flicker like uneasy ghosts. Sailors, weary and blood‑stained from recent raids, scramble to divide their hard‑won loot while the captain issues a cryptic summons on the deck. Amid the roar of wind and the clatter of broken plunder, the crew huddles in uneasy silence, aware that the next stretch of water may hold unknown perils. The story balances raw adventure with a lingering sense that something beyond the tempest awaits.
