Description

Set against the rugged cliffs of the Rhône, a centuries‑old Carmelite convent looms like a stone‑carved refuge. Within its stark, whitewashed walls, simple wooden crosses and Saint Theresa’s maxims echo against vaulted arches, while the river below churns beneath bridges and rail viaducts. Nicolette, a young woman from Beaucaire, finds herself drawn to this cloister day after day, seeking both solace and answers amid the rhythmic chant of the sisters.

In the quiet of the parlour, hidden behind a heavy iron grate and a black veil, she meets the Mother Superior, whose gentle voice offers counsel to the restless heart. Their conversation centers on Nicolette’s growing resolve to embrace a religious vocation, a desire that has deepened despite familial resistance. As the sun dips behind the distant Alpilles, her prayer becomes a whispered promise that the path ahead may finally align with the peace she longs for.
