The novel opens in the trembling aftermath of a war that has torn continents apart. Cities lie in ruin, fields are stained with blood, and the air still carries the echo of triumphal shouts that once rose from Gibraltar to the Nordkap. Amid this broken landscape, ordinary people gather in makeshift chapels, offering prayers of thanks while their eyes search the western horizon for a glimpse of peace.
In the first act we follow a young Corsican, haunted by the specter of conflict yet driven by a stubborn hope for a new beginning. As he moves through devastated towns and crowded camps, he encounters strangers whose lives are stitched together with grief, laughter, and the fragile promise of love. Their stories intertwine, revealing how the desire to rebuild can become both a refuge and a burden in a world still raw from its wounds.
