Description

The story opens on a sun‑splashed morning in fourth‑century Rome, when the city’s streets are a riot of color and sound. Temples are draped in wreaths, musicians drift through crowds, and the air hums with devotion to Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. Beneath the towering arches of the Flavian Amphitheatre, merchants, vestal virgins and eager patricians bustle together, each hoping a glimpse of the gods will bring favor.

Through this celebratory chaos walk two senior pontiffs, their purple‑bordered togas marking them as members of the Holy College. Their conversation reveals a Rome uneasy with the growing influence of Christians, a faith that the elder priest vows to crush with a spectacular display in the arena. As the narrative unfolds, listeners are drawn into the clash of ancient ritual and emerging belief, feeling the weight of political intrigue and the raw, public ferocity of a civilization at a crossroads.
