Description

A cold, relentless clerk keeps his ledger open on the bleakest night of the year, his office a frosty island in a bustling city. The man’s name is spoken with a mixture of fear and respect; his partnership with the late Mr. Marley has left him the sole steward of a dwindling fortune. Even the winter wind seems to bend away from his doorway, as if the world itself cannot warm his heart.

When the night deepens, a strange chill spreads through the room and a faint, mournful glow appears. The spectral form of Marley, long dead and bound by unfinished business, rises from his grave to deliver a warning: three spirits will visit, each bearing a lesson that could alter the course of a life hardened by greed. The promise of these otherworldly guides hints at possibilities unseen, leaving the miser poised on the brink of an uneasy awakening.

About the author

Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens

1812–1870

Famous for unforgettable characters, sharp humor, and a deep sympathy for ordinary people, this Victorian storyteller turned social criticism into some of the most widely loved novels in English. His books still feel lively and dramatic, whether he is writing about hardship, hope, or the strange comedy of everyday life.
