Joseph as Ruler of Egypt speaks to his brothers.
By AMY STEEDMAN
The Story of Joseph
Joseph grows up under his father Jacob’s obvious affection, his bright coat of many colors setting him apart from his older brothers. The young man is impulsive and fascinated by vivid dreams in which sheaves, stars, and even the sun bow to him. While his brothers tend the flocks, Joseph rushes between them, eager to share his visions, unaware that his enthusiasm fuels resentment.
The envy soon hardens into a dark plot. When Jacob sends Joseph on a solitary search for the brothers, Reuben notices the dangerous mood and proposes a cruel compromise: toss the boy into a pit and later rescue him. The brothers gather, their hearts torn between cruelty and a flicker of pity, setting the stage for a perilous betrayal.
