Description

In a quiet Finnish village at the turn of the twentieth century, the Sormensuo meadow—known locally as Itäinen—has long fed families and their livestock. Joel watches his weary parents argue over the looming threat that the meadow might be taken away, a loss that would spell hunger and hardship for everyone. Their modest kitchen, the cracked bread, and the whispered calculations of debt paint a stark picture of a community on the brink.

Determined to protect what sustains them, Joel confronts the landowner, bargaining with old obligations and the weight of generations that have tended the land. The dialogue crackles with the tension between tradition and the pressing need for change, as Joel wrestles with pride, desperation, and the fear of becoming a pauper. Listeners are drawn into a vivid slice of rural life, where the fate of a single field can determine the future of an entire family.
