In this charming Finnish folk tale a humble traveler named Jaakko sets out for the market with only a few coins in his pocket. Along the way he spares a trembling mouse, a frantic weasel and a weary donkey from cruel boys, trading his modest savings for their freedom. The rescued animals pledge their loyalty, promising to repay his kindness when the time comes.

Soon after, a hulking giant and his servants ambush Jaakko, binding him and casting him into a river, while the grateful donkey, mouse and weasel race to his aid. Working together they untie the ropes, free their master and flee the giant’s domain. Their daring escape leads them to a shining palace hidden on a quiet shore, where the young man dreams of a peaceful life for himself and his newfound friends.
