The story opens amid the amber‑tinted woodlands of medieval Gascony, where the sun filters through towering trunks and the wind carries a chorus of birds and distant wolves. In this vivid forest two inseparable youths—identical in stature yet different in eye and skin—wander side by side, their bond already spoken of in the villages as “the twin eaglets.” Though raised at a humble mill, they carry the hidden legacy of a noble house, and the locals murmur that the day will come when they must prove the strength of their birth.
Against a backdrop of uneasy peace between England and France, the brothers find themselves at the edge of a larger world where loyalties are tested and adventure looms. Their bright personalities and fearless bearing hint at the larger deeds they may soon undertake, while the rustling leaves and distant war drums set a tone both romantic and foreboding. Listeners are invited to step into a tale of honor, friendship, and the first stirrings of destiny.
