Description

Pedro de Pierrepont carries the weight of an ancient French house on his shoulders. In 1875 he moves through Parisian salons with a princely bearing, yet his actual fortune is modest—a modest inheritance and a modest annual allowance from his affluent aunt, the baroness of Montauron. A veteran of the 1870 war, he has returned to a life of leisure and genteel pursuits, but the lingering echo of duty never quite leaves him. The narrative opens with his polished exterior clashing against the fragile financial reality of his lineage.

Behind the baroness’s seemingly benevolent concern lies a calculated plan: she hopes to secure the family’s future by arranging a marriage between Pedro and a wealthy heiress. Her motives blend pride, selfishness, and a fear of losing the Pierrepont name to dwindling resources. As the pressure mounts, Pedro must weigh his love of independence against the expectations of a family desperate to revive its glory. Listeners will be drawn into a world of aristocratic intrigue, where personal desire and ancestral obligation intersect.
