A solitary scholar with a skeptical eye finds himself drawn into the world of the uncanny when he acquires an old chair from a sale of a reputedly haunted house in Red Lion Square. The piece, an elegant mahogany with a history whispered by his friend, arrives just as his wife is away on a family emergency. Even his pet cat, usually bold, flees at the sight of the new furniture, hinting that something is amiss.
Once settled in his lonely flat, the chair begins to exhibit unsettling behaviour: it slides toward the window as if seeking escape, then rocks violently when blocked, and emits low, mournful groans that fill the room. Determined to understand, he spends nights seated in it, attempting knocks, automatic writing, and silent contemplation.
The narrative weaves his personal curiosity with the early‑twentieth‑century fascination for spirit investigation, letting listeners feel the creeping tension and the allure of an object that may hold unseen memories. As the mystery deepens, the line between observation and experience blurs, inviting you to sit in the chair’s shadow and wonder.
