Description

Harry Joscelyn is a restless young clerk whose life unravels the moment he is cast out by family and denied the money he believed would secure his future. The opening finds him aboard a train, watching the countryside recede while his anger swells into a fierce resolve to break free from a world that feels hostile and confining. Arriving in bustling Liverpool, he is drawn to the constant flow of ships on the River Mersey, each vessel a reminder of distant horizons and untold possibilities.

Haunted by both betrayal and a desperate need for independence, Harry parcels together a modest few belongings and begins to map a path away from his old identity. He flirts with grandiose dreams of a yacht and a fresh start across the Atlantic, yet remains tethered by practical concerns—debts to settle and the very real question of which “boat” will carry him forward. The narrative captures his inner turbulence as he teeters between impulsive escape and the lingering pull of the familiar, setting the stage for a journey that will test his resolve and reshape his sense of self.
