Description

Step back into the frozen wilds of Siberia, where a 1799 expedition set out on a reindeer sled in search of ivory, only to stumble upon a perfect, frozen giant. Ossian Schumachoff’s chance encounter with a massive, perfectly preserved mammoth sparks a clash of superstition and curiosity, as tribal elders warn of ancient curses while the lure of priceless tusks grows ever stronger.

Driven by ambition and the harsh whisper of the Arctic wind, Schumachoff returns years later to see the ice melt, cutting away the tusks and selling them for a modest sum. Yet the true marvel lies deeper: when naturalist Adams arrives with a party of Tungus guides, the skeleton and skin of the ancient beast emerge, still bearing its massive head, shaggy wool, and even preserved brain tissue.

What follows is a race against time and nature, as the explorers labor to free the colossal remains and transport them across thousands of miles to the great museums of Europe, where they will forever change our understanding of the world’s vanished giants.
