Description

A lively group of village youngsters bundles into Elder Meadows’s sleigh, eager for a day at old Mr. Wire’s maple‑sugar farm. Their chatter mixes curiosity about the sweet craft with playful teasing, while the crisp March air carries the promise of fresh sap and the creak of wooden spiles. As they arrive, the Wire family greets them with warm hospitality, hinting at generations of sugar‑making expertise rooted in the hill‑side forest.

Guided by Jerry Buntley, a knowledgeable but modest visitor, the children watch the bubbling iron kettles and learn how sap drips into pristine buckets before turning into amber sugar. The simple tasks—driving spiles, hauling buckets, and stoking fires—become a shared adventure, filling the day with laughter, the scent of caramel, and a sense of community pride. By sunset, the group gathers around the farmhouse, already tasting the fruits of their labor and dreaming of next season’s harvest.
