Description

On a crisp December afternoon, the narrow streets of a bustling town become a battlefield for two rival gangs of boys. The Wood Street crew, led by the sharp‑eyed Jack Lubs, and the Tin Street bunch, commanded by the mischievous Tim Ashburner, clash in a snow‑filled skirmish that turns the half‑dug cellar on Short Street into a makeshift fort. Their feud, sparked by a wayward parrot and a string of petty insults, quickly escalates into a lively exchange of snowballs, shouted taunts, and daring maneuvers across piles of timber and brick.

As the sun dips toward night, the youngsters rally their friends for what they hope will be a final, grand battle to close out the year. Jack, driven by a sense of honor and a desire for “satisfaction,” gathers his comrades while Ashburner, ever the opportunist, readies his own squad with equal gusto. The scene captures the exuberant, almost theatrical spirit of childhood rivalry, setting the stage for a memorable showdown that promises both chaos and camaraderie.
