Description

In the damp, stone‑filled cell of Morro Castle, a fourteen‑year‑old Catalan named Cristóbal finds himself among a hundred political prisoners, far from the sun‑kissed streets of Barcelona. Though the fortress walls echo with games, songs, and whispered prayers, his mind is fixed on a single, desperate question: what will become of his twelve‑year‑old sister, left alone on a foreign island? The older, kindly inmate who sits beside him offers comfort, yet the harsh reality of war‑torn Cuba presses in on the young boy’s fragile hope.

Through quiet conversation, Cristóbal recounts a harrowing journey across sugar‑cane fields, a broken promise of family, and a sudden arrest by Spanish troops that landed him in this grim cell. As the inmates share their own stories of mistaken guilt and survival, the narrative paints a vivid portrait of innocence caught in the crossfire of rebellion, hinting at the resilience and unexpected alliances that may yet shape Cristóbal’s fate.
