Description

In the autumn of 1676 New England trembles under the weight of King Philip’s War, a brutal clash that pits fledgling colonial towns against a united confederation of Native tribes. Amid the smoke‑filled skies of the Connecticut River valley, a ragged militia gathers in the modest town of Hadley, spurred by desperation and a fierce resolve to protect their homes. Seventeen‑year‑old Jonathan Wells, the son of a farmer, volunteers for a daring strike that will test his courage far beyond the chores of the fields.

The night‑time raid moves through tangled swamps and shadowed forests, catching the enemy camp off guard and turning the tide of battle in a flash of gunfire and panic. Victory arrives, but the price is steep: the surviving warriors regroup and the militia, outnumbered and scattered, must race back toward safety. As the forest swallows the retreating soldiers, Jonathan finds himself isolated with only his wits and a handful of comrades to rely on, setting the stage for an astonishing escape that will become local legend.
