Happy and Gay Marching Away

Meet Tot, Tom, Toby, May, Doll, and a lively cast of children and animals in a cheerful collection of short poems, rhymes, and simple picture stories. From cats, dogs, horses, and goats to a bird longing for the greenwood, each episode invites young listeners into a world of play, curiosity, kindness, and gentle lessons.

Children wander out to enjoy May Day, puzzle over nursery-rhyme nonsense, dread the school bell, and set off with a new sailboat called The Sea Foam. Along the way, small mishaps—a frightened child, a broken birthday gift, or an unexpected injury—bring chances to show courage, sympathy, patience, and care. Written in an easy, rhythmic style, these brief selections are well suited to read-aloud listening, with familiar rhymes and memorable characters that encourage children to follow along and imagine the scenes.
