In a cold winter evening inside a modest log cabin, the Karisto family wrestles with hunger, restless youth, and whispered prophecies of a celestial omen known as Halleyn star. The mother, Josefiina, juggles her spinning loom while scolding her son Uuno Akseli for stealing his father's precious lard and for his growing habit of chewing tobacco. Their neighbor Leena arrives with frantic tales of a blue‑hued vapor that could turn the earth to ash, turning domestic squabbles into a frantic debate about survival and superstition.
The tension escalates when the patriarch Mäki‑Matti bursts in, accusations flying and fists clenched, while the family scrambles for a battered hymn book that might shield them from the imagined curse. Humor and dread mingle as the characters juggle everyday chores with apocalyptic anxiety, creating a vivid portrait of rural life on the edge of belief. Listeners are drawn into the cramped, soot‑smudged world where each line crackles with the raw energy of a community on the brink.
