Description

On a sweltering July afternoon, the Adams household hums with the quiet rhythm of sewing and the occasional chirp of distant locusts. Polly, a red‑gold‑haired girl with a quick tongue, darts from the front gate into the cool front room, where her mother and Aunt Jane tend to patchwork quilts. The house is a world of expectations—sewing, modest manners, and dutiful obedience—yet Polly’s spirited nature constantly tests those boundaries, especially when her younger sister Molly teases her.

The story follows Polly as she navigates the tug‑of‑war between childhood mischief and the pressure to behave “properly.” Her mother’s gentle reprimands and Aunt Jane’s stern counsel reveal a family striving to balance affection with discipline. As Polly grapples with her own impatience and the desire to please, listeners are drawn into a vivid portrait of a bygone era, where simple domestic chores become the stage for larger lessons about patience, pride, and growing up.
