ACTE CINQUIÈME
Set in the bustling streets of 15th‑century Mainz, the play opens with the young master‑goldsmith Jean Gutenberg wrestling with the weight of his family’s legacy. His sister Hébèle, devoted and practical, watches as he wrestles between the safety of the familiar trade and a daring vision that could change the world. Their modest workshop, filled with the clang of metal and whispered hopes, becomes the backdrop for a restless ambition that reaches far beyond ordinary craftsmanship.
A mysterious stranger, the apprentice Friélo, brings unsettling news—strange sheets of inked symbols that seem to materialise without a hand to write them. As Gutenberg grows more secretive, the townsfolk and rival merchants begin to sense that something extraordinary—and perhaps dangerous—is afoot. The tension builds as personal loyalties and the promise of a revolutionary invention clash, setting the stage for a drama that intertwines family, faith, and the birth of a new age.
