Description

In the bustling heart of late‑Victorian London, Mrs. James Preedy runs a modest lodging house from the cramped basement kitchen of No. 118, Great Porter Square. A seasoned caretaker of society’s most transient residents, she knows the rhythm of those who wander in and out, relying on her for food, washing and a brief refuge. Her modest world is punctuated by faded photographs and the lingering presence of her late husband, whose memory hangs over the kitchen like the lingering scent of pipe smoke.

When a shocking murder reverberates through the square, even the ordinary walls of Mrs. Preedy’s kitchen seem to echo with whispers of danger. The local paper, the “Evening Moon,” begins to piece together clues, and its special correspondent finds herself drawn into the lives of a little match‑girl and a nervous young lodger. As rumors swirl and Mrs. Preedy’s own uneasy dreams intensify, the quiet routine of the boarding house begins to unravel, inviting listeners into a tightly knit community where every secret could be the key to solving the mystery.
