Grandmother Puss; Or, The grateful mouse
GRANDMOTHER PUSS,
In a busy cellar lives Grandmother Puss, a dignified black-and-white cat with a tender heart and a solemn promise. She has raised her orphaned grandson Peter with so much affection that he has grown lazy, pampered, and more interested in chasing his tail than earning his meals.
Trouble comes in the form of a crafty old gray rat who steals cheese, spoils milk, and causes endless mischief. Grandmother Puss is determined to catch him, but the sly robber always stays just beyond her reach. Meanwhile, a brave little mouse named Cooky struggles to find food for himself and his lame sister while avoiding the dangerous rat.
When Cooky and Grandmother Puss meet, an unexpected bargain is proposed: the mouse will help the cat, and in return she must promise not to harm him. Their cautious alliance sets this gentle animal tale in motion, offering humor, suspense, and simple lessons about kindness, courage, loyalty, and the value of keeping one’s word.
