ANGELS ON EARTH.
MRS. TIPTOP.
Set against the lush backdrop of a Jamaican plantation, the story follows young Helen Dundass, a radiant teenager raised by a devoted father after her mother’s death. Her father's pride and deep attachment to the island keep her from the England her social circle insists would complete her education, while a kindly governess supplies the lessons he can afford. The tension between familial duty and personal desire grows as Helen blossoms into a striking young woman, drawing the admiration of those around her.
Against this backdrop, Helen meets Ward, a modest clerk employed in her father’s counting‑room, whose lack of fortune belies a sincere affection for her. Their secret love leads them to contemplate elopement, believing the duke’s wrath will soften with time. When the plan unfolds, Mr. Dundass’s reaction is fierce and unforgiving, sealing a painful rift that forces the young couple to confront the harsh realities of pride, loyalty, and the limits of paternal authority.
