In a cramped monastery where silence is broken by whispered prayers and the rustle of garden work, Brother Ambrose watches the flamboyant Brother Lorenzo with barely contained fury. The older monk’s mind is a knot of grudges, fed by an ancient manuscript on necromancy that promises a way to seal a soul to the devil. As the convent’s vines ripen and the daily rites unfold, Ambrose begins to plot a dangerous pact that could condemn his rival—and perhaps himself.
He hides his intent behind the ordinary chores—tending geraniums, fetching wine, polishing pews—while the convent’s other brothers remain oblivious to the simmering rivalry. Each small slight, from a mis‑placed fork to a whispered insult, fuels Ambrose’s elaborate schemes, bordering on the blasphemous, as he searches the forbidden text for the perfect curse. Listeners are drawn into a darkly comic clash of piety versus resentment, where the line between devotion and damnation grows ever thinner.
